Welcome to the OI Foundation's Local Network Group Program!

As part of fulfilling its mission, the OI Foundation sponsors a number of different volunteer activities. The goals for all volunteer programs include:

  • Expanding the OI community
  • Increasing awareness about OI
  • Promoting living successfully with OI
  • Finding a cure.

To reach out to more families in more communities, the OI Foundation has added Local Network Groups to the menu of volunteer projects.

What is an OI Foundation Local Network Group?
A local network group is a group of people, affected by OI, who gather periodically, in their own community, to enjoy each other’s company, share information and encourage each other. This format allows people to create a caring community to support each other and to learn from each other. Each group will have a leader or team of co-leaders who will

v     make the arrangements for the gatherings

v     develop a local contact list

v     keep in touch with the OI Foundation.

Network Group Leader's Materials

Network groups meet only as frequently as the group wishes to.

Network groups are first of all a community gathering.

Social interaction and fun are important aspects of each gathering.

How is a Local Network Group different from a Support Group?
Local Network Groups are not expected to provide a full range of support services such as information resources, personal support, or regularly scheduled speakers. There is no requirement for meeting more than once a year. Since the emphasis for Local Network Groups is on the local community, there may be more than one group in a state.

The most important job of a Local Network Group
is putting people in touch with each other
and the OI Foundation.
